Getting here
Our community excavation is situated in Trelai Park, Cardiff. This is easily accessed via Cowbridge Road West (A48). If you are travelling from Culverhouse Cross on Cowbridge Road West, take the first right turn after Aldi Supermarket marked Vincent Road. After about 100m take the first exit on the mini roundabout. Continue passed Riverbank School and the car park for Trelai Park is on your left-hand side.
Bus
The site is a short walk from the Colin Way bus stop on Cowbridge Road West. This is serviced by numbers 13, 17, 18 and 96 buses which run a circular route leaving and returning to Cardiff city centre (Wood Street). Buses run every 5-10 minutes between 5.15am and 11:10pm.
Opening times
The excavation will take place from the 8th June to the 3rd July 2026. The dig is open to visitors Monday-Friday between 9:30am-3:30pm or during our Open Day on Saturday 27th June between 10:00am - 2:00pm. Please note that Trelai Park is one of Cardiff’s largest playing fields, appropriate footwear is recommended to reach the excavation site.
Facilities
The excavation site is set at the back of Trelai Park playing fields which need to be crossed to reach us. Accessible entrances are available via the main car park to the playing fields.
Please bear in mind that there are no toilet facilities on site.
